“Dialogue At Play”

02/01/2025 - 04/01/2025

Gram Bella’s, North Side, Grand Cayman

This exhibition delves into questions of childhood and identity, and the ways in which community shapes these aspects of our lives across Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, the broader Caribbean, and even globally. Through this exploration, Scott and Iain pose a central question: Can we truly grow up without letting go of our childlike habits? This is a question they reflected on deeply, and after much thought, arrived at a simple conclusion: Yes, we can grow and mature while still finding joy in some of the same things that captivated us as children. However, this realization led to another question: Why would we want to abandon these childlike qualities?

Children are, in many ways, the most imaginative

and creative individuals among us.

They experience the world with pure emotions

and unfiltered joy

Through this exhibition, viewers are invited to

reflect on these ideas with the artists. How do

the experiences of our youth and the influence

of our communities shape who we become?

And is there value in preserving elements of

our childhood as we navigate adulthood?

The exhibition explores the tension between

maturity and childhood, questioning the necessity

of leaving behind the very qualities that shape

our early selves. Through a diverse collection of

works, the exhibition challenges the

notion that "growing up" requires abandoning

childlike wonder, curiosity, and playfulness.

Can we truly evolve without letting go of

these essential traits? And why should we?

Each piece reflects a deep dive into these

questions, showcasing the complex relationship

between adulthood and childhood.

From vivid, whimsical representations of youthful

imagination to introspective portrayals

of adult responsibility, the artworks invite the

viewer to reconsider their own journey

toward maturity.

This exhibition asks: What do we lose in our

pursuit of adulthood, and what might we gain

if we choose to carry these childlike qualities

forward? “Dialogue At Play” is a celebration of

innocence, creativity, and a reminder that

perhaps the key to true growth lies in embracing

the child within.
