“Another Young Caymanian”

05/25/2024 -07/25/2024

Gram Bella’s, North Side, Grand Cayman

As a Caymanian, we have an inherent, deep-rooted connection to our land, our culture, and our heritage, it builds our identity. Therefore, being forced out of this community evokes a profound sense of loss and ambiguity. Our islands offer us a unique blend of natural beauty, vibrant culture, and a close-knit community which when lost is incredibly distressing and creates a sense of isolation. Navigating these emotions and uncertainties requires resilience, support, and a deep sense of identity and belonging which is being taken from us day by day.

Where do we go from here?

Don't those who came before us care?

To the people in power we are simply just

another young Caymanian.

Feeling trapped in a situation where one's

options are limited, yet compelled to seek

opportunities elsewhere, can be a

profoundly disheartening experience.

As a young Caymanian, this sentiment may

be particularly poignant, as it underscores a

struggle against both external constraints

and internalized perceptions of marginalization.

Venturing beyond the familiar confines of the

islands can also bring its own set of challenges.

In new environments, Caymanians may

encounter indifference or even ignorance about

their homeland and culture. Being viewed

as "just another young Caymanian" in these

contexts can be disheartening, as it may seem

like their unique identity and experiences

are overlooked or misunderstood.

However, despite these challenges, there is

resilience and strength in the Caymanian spirit.

Many young Caymanians are determined to

defy expectations, break down barriers, and

make their mark on the world. They draw upon

their rich cultural heritage, strong community

bonds, and inner resilience to navigate the

complexities of life, wherever their journeys may

take them.

So…

Stop stopping them.
